Approval of The Sonoran Desert Open Space and Habitat Protection; Preventing Urban Encroachment of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base question would add about $18.39 a year in property taxes on a home valued by the assessor at $150,000. The money will be used to purchase public and private land scattered around the Tucson area. It includes $10 million to buy land near D-M to slow encroachment, a move aimed at helping preserve the base during next year's round of planned military base closures. Much of the land would become the core of the county's still unadopted Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan. The plan would identify and permanently set aside land important to endangered and vulnerable animal and plant species, while providing developers with some certainty where they can build without fear of running afoul of federal wildlife officials. Other lands in more urbanized areas would be set aside as community open space. ... for the entire story, see http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/index.php?page=local&story_id=042804a1_bondspace> -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org =========================================================== Give Your Team Access to Their PCs from Anywhere.
