$208,752 will fund study of Patrick 

Base may lease unused property

Brevard County was one of five counties receiving grants from the state
to help improve defense facilities across Florida. 

Brevard is getting $208,752 to fund what's called an "enhanced-use
leasing authority" study at Patrick Air Force Base. The study's purpose
is to guide Patrick in leasing underused property to the private sector
in exchange for payments -- cash or in-kind compensation -- which should
reduce operating costs at the base and modernize facilities. 

The Brevard grant is part of $905,956 funding package going to five
counties. The grants are overseen by Gov. Jeb Bush's Office of Tourism,
Trade and Economic Development, in coordination with Enterprise Florida
Inc. and the Florida Defense Alliance.
