Perchlorate scares put pressure on bottlers By PETER WARD Lowell Sun (MA) October 11, 2004 WESTFORD When Ken Winchester was told his private well was tainted with perchlorate, the first thing he did was arrange to have bottled water home-delivered. He chose Poland Spring, which was lucky for him because the company began testing its water supplies for perchlorate more than a year ago. But bottled water companies aren't required to test for perchlorate, a chemical harmful to human health that's found in the ingredients of blasting materials.
