Westchester County Airport cleans up its act

After three years of working to clean up its act, Westchester County Airport has become the third airport in the nation to meet international environmental standards established to protect natural resources.

Residents of Greenwich and other nearby communities have long been concerned about noise and air pollution from the airport and potential environmental harm from chemical and fuel runoff. Having the airport meet international standards should relieve residents' concerns about the facility's effect on the water supply and other natural resources, Westchester County officials said.

The other American airports to earn the certification are Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts and Denver International Airport, Westchester County officials said.
