Port busy dismantling 10 ships from Ghost FleetBy GILBERTO SALINAS The Brownsville Herald (TX) October 15, 2004 The shipbreaking business at the Port of Brownsville is as strong as steel today and about to get stronger with the addition of four more ships for dismantling. The U.S. Maritime Administration recently announced four ship-dismantling contracts for All Star Metals and Marine Metals at the port, which in turn will create and solidify hundreds of trade jobs, said port director Raul Besteiro. "I think it will be a good Christmas for a lot of families in Brownsville," said Besteiro, who also is the chief executive officer for the Brownsville Navigation District. "We're getting more ships and that means hundreds of jobs. They're going to need a lot of cutters and people who know how to cut and move steel," he said. "There's going to be a lot of work for people here." … for the entire article, see http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/ts_comments.php?id=P61621_0_10_0_C -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 http://www.cpeo.org
