Plans to preserve open space while curbing development pressures around
Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort won final approval from the Beaufort
County Council on Monday.

Under the proposal, the county will pay $155,625 of the $311,250 cost to
buy development rights to 69 acres next to the air station in northern
Beaufort County. The Department of the Navy will pick up the rest of the
price tag, according to the agreement.

Harten said before the council voted 10-0 to approve third reading of
the plan.

Councilman Peter Lamb didn't attend Monday's meeting.
