EOD takes part in wing's deploymentby Shad West Hilltop Times (UT) November 11, 2004 The radios in the command post started squawking before the sun rose on Saturday. Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams from across the country climbed out of their mummy bags and strapped on their Kevlar vests and donned their helmets. Airmen ducked out of the tents to scrape the ice from windows and warm up their Humvees and pick-up trucks. With early morning temperatures below freezing, Airmen kept their gloves on as they tried to rip open their Meals-Ready-to-Eat. There wasn't time to heat the chicken enchilada or chicken noodle, and the Airmen ate it cold as they were briefed on the morning calls. EOD personnel from McChord AFB, Wash., Tyndall AFB, Fla., Edwards AFB, Calif., and Minot AFB, N.D., spent eight days in Utah's west desert training on more than 170 different scenarios that members brought back from their deployments to Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. "We wanted to bring in EOD troops who had been deployed so they could pass that knowledge on to the Airmen who will deploy in the spring," Capt. Sean Haglund said. "The training is as close to what our people will see in the region with the added luxury of 'hot washing' the ops when they are complete."
