Governor goes to bat for Guard heliports Development limits sought to save Ariz. military sites By Howard Fischer CAPITOL MEDIA SERVICES (Arizona Daily Star) December 9, 2004 Gov. Janet Napolitano wants to restrict development around National Guard helicopter training sites in hopes of preserving the state's military presence. Napolitano said a top official she met with Wednesday at the Defense Department was aware of - and apparently pleased with - efforts Arizona officials have made to prevent residential encroachment around military bases. That includes legislation that earlier this year allocated funds to buy development rights and also created noise-notification requirements for home buyers beneath low-level-training routes for jets. But the governor said lawmakers now need to limit construction around the bases and flight-training areas used by helicopter crews. ...
