Perchlorate level falls, ban could end By Bethan L. Jones Tewksbury Advocate (MA) December 9, 2004 Tewksbury may see the ban on consuming its drinking water removed sooner than expected. While the state Department of Environmental Protection requires a community to have clear tests for eight weeks before lifting a drinking water ban, it is clear with a source in hand, the DEP is looking to be more lenient with Tewksbury. "[The DEP hopes] to work with the town and get that lifted as soon as it seems feasible," said Ed Coletta, spokesman for the DEP. ... "Since the polluter has been identifies and has ceased participation in the pollution, and since tests from just three days ago indicate that the perchlorate levels are now at a safe level, well below that requiring a Health Advisory, we respectfully ask that you remove the advisory as quickly as possible to prevent further harm to the Tewksbury residents," read the letter, dated Dec. 3. ...
