Deadline delayed on Yuba plan By Tom Nadeau Sacramento Bee (CA) February 25, 2005 MARYSVILLE - Planning officials have given the public an extra 45 days to comment on the controversial Yuba Highlands project, but only in writing. The Yuba County Planning Commission voted Wednesday to extend the deadline to comment on the draft environmental impact report to May 2. The vote came at a packed meeting with about 80 people turning out, most to criticize the project. The proposed project calls for 5,000 homes to be built on 2,900 acres of former Beale Air Force Base [actually, it's former Camp Beale, adjacent to Beale Air Force Base] land between Wheatland and Smartsville. Speakers said the 600-page draft EIR had not adequately addressed important issues including what the developers plan to do about the unexploded ordnance that remains scattered around the area. ...
