Radioactive material storage vault slated for demolition By Kafia Hosh Belvoir Eagle (VA) August 4, 2005 A vault on post that was once used to store radioactive materials is slated for demolition next month. An environmental assessment found that the demolition of the vault will have no major human health or environmental effects. The vault is assigned building No. 7304 and is located inside the gated Research and Development Engineering Compound on south post. In 2003, the Army requested that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission terminate its license to use the building as a radioactive materials storage vault. As a result, the Army prepared a decommissioning plan to meet the NRC closure standards and emptied the vault, which contained several bottles filled with chemical agents. ...
