OLF fight broadensBy BILL SANDIFER Washington Daily News (NC) August 20, 2005 BELVIDERE -- Residents from Perquimans and surrounding counties kissed and made up Thursday night with Beaufort County and Washington County opponents of a Navy outlying landing field originally proposed for a site on the Beaufort-Washington county line. When the Navy announced its site selection, organized resistance among the other counties fell apart, leaving Beaufort and Washington counties' residents to fend for themselves. "We basically let these gentlemen down when we quit," said Pete Perry, a Perquimans County resident. "When they were centered on the bull's-eye, we quit and we haven't had a meeting since." ...
