Miramar airport option gets push

Panel, over Marines' objections, forwards proposal to share site

Voters may get the chance to weigh in on whether commercial aircraft and 
the military should share Miramar Marine Corps Air Station.

A proposal for the joint use of Miramar moved one step closer to the 
November ballot after a San Diego County Regional Airport Authority 
committee yesterday endorsed the measure while pledging to respect 
"military readiness and safety."

The measure, forwarded to the agency's board of directors on a 3-1 vote, 
seeks to encourage elected officials to join the campaign for a civilian 
airport at the Marine Corps installation, despite adamant opposition 
from the military.
