County weighs development west of Hunter Airfield

Proposed land-use plan may allow homes in flight path of Army aircraft

More than 900 undeveloped acres west of Hunter Army Airfield have pitted 
the needs of the military against the interests of private property 
owners - a dilemma Chatham County commissioners must now resolve.

On Friday, the commission again will consider adoption of the 
Tricentennial Plan, which maps out land-use through 2033.

The commission had delayed the vote to consider the future of Rockingham 
Farms, a tract of land located along Veterans Parkway beneath the flight 
paths of incoming and outgoing Army aircraft.
