Bombs away! Army Corps of Engineers crews recovered fragments and practice bomb casings from the Rancho area. By ALEJANDRA MOLINA Orange County Register (CA) December 13, 2006 If you didn't hear it, you probably didn't know about it. A dull thud announced a small explosion on Nov. 30, marking the completion of a six-week field investigation by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Former Trabuco Bombing Range. The area that formerly constituted the Trabuco Bombing Range is now within the City of Rancho Santa Margarita and O'Neill Regional Park. The investigation recovered fragments and practice bomb casings - about a half dozen - that contained intact "spotting charges." Investigators found no evidence of high explosives. The hardly-noticeable thud on Nov.30 signaled the controlled detonation of the practice bomb casings that rendered spotting charges safe. ...
