Old bomb site to be checked Army engineers will scour defunct Sahuarita Air Force Range for dangers By Tim Ellis ARIZONA DAILY STAR January 18, 2006Experts with the Army Corps of Engineers next week will look for old bombs and other hazards in an area east of Sahuarita used decades ago as a bombing range. Most of the bombs, bullets and other tools of warfare used in the 42-square-mile Sahuarita Air Force Range were cleaned up when the U.S. military handed the last portion of the range back to the state in 1978. Although only a few bombs — and other hardware that resembles bombs — have been found in the sparsely populated area over the years, corps officials believe there's at least a chance that unexploded ordnance may still lie buried around the area, said Lloyd Godard, a project manager with the Corps of Engineers' Los Angeles regional office. ...
