Fish advisory stays By Jon Ruhlen Parsons Sun (KS) January 24, 2007HALLOWELL - Efforts to clean up chemical contamination in a Cherokee County strip pit seem to be working. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment, along with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, issued a fish consumption advisory on Jan. 8 for Horseshoe Lake, in Units 22 and 23 of the Mined Lands Wildlife area, about five miles east of Oswego. The advisory warns against eating "all aquatic life" in Horseshoe Lake because of perchlorate contamination. Perchlorate is a chemical used in explosives manufacturing. ...
