Leaders say lead ban can be lifted By AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) March 1, 2007FALMOUTH - The road to firing lead ammunition again at Camp Edwards is clear. But Massachusetts National Guard leaders must clean up some tainted soil and institute environmental safeguards on the firing ranges before a 1997 ban on lead ammunition can be lifted this summer, environmental and military leaders said at a public hearing last night. After a decade of disagreement about whether lead ammunition from ranges could taint the Cape's drinking water aquifer, environmental and military officials for the first time agree that lead ammunition can be used at Camp Edwards in a way that will not threaten water supplies. ...
