Study cites old releases of radioactive elements from lab Associated Press WSTM-NBC 3 News (Central New York) March 14, 2007 NISKAYUNA, N.Y. A new study shows some plutonium and other radioactive metals released into the Mohawk River decades ago by Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory have traveled far downstream into the Hudson. The study found small amounts of the plutonium-239, plutonium-240 and cesium-137, attributed to activities at KAPL, more than 124 miles away. Government officials say that plutonium and cesium in the river sediment poses no health hazards to humans and the environment due to the low levels of concentration. ...
