STP (stoptheplanes.com) BELIEVES LATEST 2003 ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR NAVAL AIR STATION (NAS) KEY WEST IS REVERSE ENGINEERED TO SATISFY LOCAL MEDIA AND CITIZENS CONCERNS.

Navy distributes altered NAS Key West Environmental Documents relative to environmental impact statements regarding the flying of F18 SuperHornet aircraft at NAS Key West.

STP reviewed documents supplied by NAS Key West in response to Freedom of Information Act Requests and have uncovered numerous distortions. "The Navy seems to continue to reverse engineer and alter previously issued documents to satisfy their illegal use of the F18 Super Hornet aircraft at NAS Key West. After getting admonished by Judge Terrence W. Boyle of Federal District Court, Washington DC in February 2005, (see <http://www.noolf.com/index.cfm/sid.282/oid.1120>) the Navy refuses to follow the laws of the EPA," stated Paul S. Caruso, STP Organizer. "'The Environmental Assessment for Fleet Support and Infrastructure Improvements NAS Key West' document was dated April 2003. The pdf file computer generated date stamp was dated April 2004. The inserts, specifically 4.10 NOISE/AICUZ and 4.10.1 Preferred Alternative (pg. 124), regarding F18 Super Hornets, were inserted and dated 2007. And, this military document is missing the normal tracking numbers usually found on DOD documents distributed to the public. This is reverse engineering at it's best," continued Caruso.

STP has contacted Wyle Laboratories, listed as the "Aircraft/ Airfield Noise Specialist" on the front page of the 2007 AICUZ document. Their spokesman, Dan Reeder (310-563-6834), refused to answer any questions regarding the use of outdated research in making their conclusions regarding the use of the F18 Super Hornet aircraft. "Their [Wyle Labs] refusal to answer 3 simple questions regarding the Navy's flawed and altered research confirms our belief that the changes to the 2007 AICUZ map were made to benefit a high end developer. The Navy's lack of concern for our citizens' safety and the safety of the F18 Super Hornet pilots is criminal. We implore the Navy to begin an investigation into this situation immediately," stated Caruso.

Caruso continued, "To satisfy the demand by concerned citizens, STP has added the environmental documents in question to their website for downloading, <http://www.stoptheplanes.com/eis.html>. I believe that when the citizens of Monroe County see for themselves the documents in question, they will understand that the NAS Key West facility is not about to tell us the truth about anything. Especially Environmental practices currently being followed at the facility."

Numerous communities, Congressmen and Senators throughout the US are questioning the Navy's judgment in regard to citizen safety, health risks and damages to our environment. The F18 Super Hornet is the loudest and worst polluting aircraft ever produced.
