Corps tabs new areas of concern By Suzi Nelson LaVista Sun (NE) August 15, 2007ASHLAND - The United States Army Corps of Engineers revealed that the plumes of contaminated groundwater from the former Nebraska Ordnance Plant near Mead may be extending beyond their expectations in five or 10 years. At the quarterly Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) meeting Monday in Ashland, Corps of Engineers Project Manager Garth Anderson said the Corps has identified three areas of concern. In these three areas, modeling shows that the contaminants are likely to spread beyond the hydraulic capture zone if no new measures are taken. ...Marquess said computers models show areas of potential vapor intrusion. The models identify 11 structures, both residential and commercial, that will be tested. These are located over Load Line 1 and four TCE plumes. The EPA will bring in a mobile lab to begin sampling first by taking samples of the sub-slab, or vapors from the soil beneath the buildings.
