A builder's viewpoint: BRAC will bring a new challenge to Valley Huntsville Times (AL) February 10, 2008 You may not be surprised to learn that the president of the Huntsville-Madison County Builders Association characterizes the local housing market as "challenging." But you may be surprised to learn why John Allen thinks that way. He largely dismisses the steady drumbeat of negative national headlines - "Drop in new home sales sets record"; "Housing hits trifecta of bad news" - and instead focuses on the key challenge he says local home builders face: how to accommodate the thousands of new workers and families expected to move here over the next few years because of BRAC and defense industry growth. In short, Allen, president of custom home builder Southern Construction & Design Inc. in Madison, is more worried about a shortage of new houses than a glut as the demand continues to rise. ...
