AVX steers eyes to air base Documents cite Air Force site proximity By David Wren Myrtle Beach Sun News (SC) March 1, 2008 Electronics manufacturer AVX Corp., the source of toxic groundwater contamination in a Myrtle Beach neighborhood, has started making references in court documents to that neighborhood's close proximity to the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Those references come just weeks after AVX Chief Executive John Gilbertson said his company might target the Air Force as a potential source of at least some of the neighborhood's pollution. If AVX can show other property owners contributed to the pollution, those property owners would have to share in the cleanup costs, under terms of the federal Superfund law. AVX, which is being sued by owners of the nearby contaminated property, had not mentioned the Air Force in court filings prior to Gilbertson's statements during a Jan. 24 conference call with stock analysts. ...
