The military's Base Realignment and Closure process will bring an estimated 40,000 to 60,000 new jobs to Maryland in the next few years.

Starting this fall, the state will be able to funnel extra infrastructure money and give priority for development programs to areas that will receive that growth, under legislation signed Tuesday by Gov. Martin O'Malley.

Although no one has decided yet where such an area might be, the old Frederick Brick Works site in Frederick city is one possible candidate, she said.

BRAC will bring an estimated 200 to 300 jobs to Fort Detrick, while Aberdeen Proving Ground is expected to pick up the most jobs in the state, with roughly 8,000.
