Oceanport rejects fort reuse plan
Some on council urge boro to 'walk away'

The Oceanport Borough Council rejected the Fort Monmouth reuse plan last 
week, with some council members calling for the borough to give up its 
fort property and opt out of plans for the future of the Army base.

The council directed Mayor Michael Mahon, as a member of the Fort 
Monmouth Economic Revitalization Planning Authority (FMERPA), to vote 
against the authority's reuse plan in a resolution passed unanimously at 
the Aug. 7 council meeting.

The resolution further asks that FMERPA request an extension on 
submission of the plan, due to the Department of Defense (DOD) and the 
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) by Sept. 8, until 
concerns regarding the accuracy of the plan can be addressed.
