Last two major contaminated sites at TCAAP to begin remediation 585 acres could be sold to Arden Hills by the end of next year by Stephen Harding Shoreview Press (MN) August 25, 2008ARDEN HILLS - The clean up of the last major polluted sites in the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant (TCAAP) will be addressed before winter hits the metro area. The U.S. Army has initiated plans to clean up 585 acres of property on the western border of the property, known as Site K and Building 102, that it plans to sell to the city of Arden Hills for $45 million by the fall of 2009. The two sites are located directly east of where Highway 10 and 35E merge in Arden Hills. The cleanup efforts are intended ensure the health and safety of nearby residents and future residents and prevent the contamination from spreading, according to TCAAP Commander's Representative Mike Fix. Redevelopment of the property is slated to begin within one year of the land sale. Though specific plans have yet to be made (see sidebar about tentative uses) the city has said its goal is to "accommodate a mix of land uses that is sensitive to the natural environment, economically sustainable, and a benefit to the community." It reported in July that redevelopment "is anticipated to be completed in phases over the next 10 to 20 years." ...
