Army may let part of ammo plant go By Leslie Albrecht Modesto Bee (CA) January 22, 2009 RIVERBANK -- Ten acres at the Army ammunition plant on Claus Road could be sold to developers by the end of the year, an important first step in bringing new jobs and businesses to the area, city officials say. At a meeting in Sacramento last week, Army officials agreed to consider transferring part of the 173-acre ammo plant out of Army hands as soon as possible. Ten acres on the plant's southern edge could be transferred before March 2010, said Mark Jones of the Army's Base Realignment and Closure program. City officials are hopeful that the transfer could happen sooner, by late this year. That's good news for Riverbank. The sooner the plant moves out of Army hands, the sooner the city can usher in the plant's rebirth as a hub for green jobs and businesses. ...
