Additional sampling will take place this summer and fall at 16
contaminated sites at the now-closed Ravenna Arsenal.

But the cleanup activities at the medium and low-priority sites at the
former Ravenna Army Ammunition Plant won't be completed until 2013-2014,
said spokesman Jed Thomas of Science Application International Corp.,
the contractor hired by the Army to do the work.

Those cleanups of chemically contaminated soils, surface water and
sediments and analysis of groundwater at the complex in eastern Portage
and western Trumbull counties will cost about $40 million.

Cleanup plans must be developed and approved and public hearings must be
held before cleanup orders can be finalized, he said at a Wednesday
meeting of the plant's Restoration Advisory Board.
