Army negotiates price for new reserve centerSite in Marvine Properties Business Property Park location sought for combined Scranton/W-B center. Ralph Nardone Wilkes-Barre Times Leader (PA_ March 23, 2009SCRANTON -- The U.S. Army is negotiating purchase of land at the Marvine Properties Business Property Park to build a new reserve center, according to the Todd Hornback of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. If all goes right, the $32 million project will consolidate the Serrenti Memorial U.S. Army Reserve Center in Scranton and the Army Reserve Center in Wilkes-Barre into a 80,000-square-foot structure by September 2011. The new center will replace the two that do not meet “modern operation and training needs” and energy efficiency, Hornback said. Twenty-five acres of former mine area, or “brownfield,” will be used, Hornback said. He added that the Army is pleased to find use for the brownfield area, which was formerly deep- and strip-mining land. ....
