Former Lejeune resident files lawsuit over contaminated drinking water By Joe Johnson Wilmington Star-News (NC) July 6, 2009Attorneys for Laura J. Jones held a press conference in Raleigh on Monday announcing they had filed a lawsuit on her behalf against the U.S. government seeking damages for personal injuries she suffered by consuming allegedly polluted water while living at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville. ..."We finally got enough information to be satisfied that the government actually knew of the danger and was warned of the danger of the deplorable contamination levels," Pangia said. "In the early 1970s, the government and the Navy had regulations that restricted (this type of pollution)." The lawsuit alleges that the U.S. government, through agents within the Department of Defense, knowingly exposed Marines, sailors, their families and civilian employees to highly contaminated drinking water on the base at Camp Lejeune. It also alleges that the government actively disseminated information that minimized the significance of the danger to those who were exposed. ...
