Subject: [CPEO-MEF] ENCROACHMENT: Luke Air Force Base (AZ) legal case
Law puts Luke AFB at center of dispute
County's, state's views on zoning ruling differ

A court ruling could open the door to residential development around Luke Air Force Base and its ancillary facilities - or not.

The state and Maricopa County are at odds over the interpretation of Superior Court Judge Edward Burke's latest order issued Wednesday. Each side has a different view on whether the order allows for single-family homes on 1-acre lots in the 65- to 79-decibel zones around Luke, Auxiliary Field 1 and Gila Bend Auxiliary Air Field.

The noise zones apply to flight operations at Luke and its outlying facilities. The closer a tract is to active runways for F-16 training, the higher the decibel zone. The dispute centers on the restrictions on development within such zones.
