Law puts Luke AFB at center of dispute County's, state's views on zoning ruling differ by Cecilia Chan The Arizona Republic September 13, 2009A court ruling could open the door to residential development around Luke Air Force Base and its ancillary facilities - or not. The state and Maricopa County are at odds over the interpretation of Superior Court Judge Edward Burke's latest order issued Wednesday. Each side has a different view on whether the order allows for single-family homes on 1-acre lots in the 65- to 79-decibel zones around Luke, Auxiliary Field 1 and Gila Bend Auxiliary Air Field. The noise zones apply to flight operations at Luke and its outlying facilities. The closer a tract is to active runways for F-16 training, the higher the decibel zone. The dispute centers on the restrictions on development within such zones. ...
