Army, Nature Conservancy strike deal on Bullis By Sig Christenson San Antonio Express-News (TX) September 17, 2009The Nature Conservancy and Fort Sam Houston were poised to announce today a five-year agreement to bolster Camp Bullis by finding and purchasing land to set aside as habitat for an endangered songbird. Under the deal, the conservancy will look for land in a five-county area surrounding the 27,994-acre training range that is home to the endangered golden-cheeked warbler. Fort Sam will buy the land with funds from the Army Compatible Use Buffer program. The post, in turn, will be able to clear parts of the camp's 10,000 acres that have been off-limits to training when the warbler nests there in the spring and summer. ....
