Texas unveils plan to help save endangered species near Camp Bullis

A task force led by Texas Comptroller Susan Combs has issued a set of recommendations to help preserve the habitat and increase the population of the endangered golden-cheeked warbler, while accommodating the Department of Defense's plan to train more troops at Camp Bullis.

The state is working on a strategy to balance the needs of wildlife habitat as well as the military. The Department of Defense is consolidating medic training at Fort Sam Houston as part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) decision — adding more than 12,000 jobs to the local economy. As part of that plan, more medics will be utilizing Camp Bullis in North San Antonio.
