Local officials seek larger post-Fort Monmouth role By CAROL GORGA WILLIAMS Asbury Park Press (NJ) November 10, 2009Local officials are demanding more say in planning for the future of the Fort Monmouth property after Army operations there end in 2011. Now that the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Planning Authority has completed its work, the agency must move to implement its $1 billion blueprint for life after the base closure, a process that is raising concerns that FMERPA's successor will be weighed down by state appointees, drowning out local voices. Oceanport officials have long complained that FMERPA was controlled by appointees of the governor, leaving only one slot for the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders and room for the mayors of Oceanport, Tinton Falls and Eatontown, the fort's so-called host communities. ...
