Senators support mortality study on Lejeune water contamination HOPE HODGE Jacksonville Daily News (NC) December 10, 2009North Carolina's senators have signed on to a letter challenging the Department of the Navy to fund a mortality study on water contaminants that thousands believe sickened Camp Lejeune residents several decades ago. The latest chapter in a fight to prove a causal connection between toxins in base drinking water between the 1950s and 1980s and a laundry list of uncommon diseases including male breast cancer, the letter, signed Wednesday by senators Richard Burr, Kay Hagan and two Florida senators, urges the Navy to fully fund the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry's 2010 plan of study on Camp Lejeune, including a complete mortality study and a public health survey. "These studies are integral to a comprehensive understanding of the effects stemming from human exposure to the contaminants at Camp Lejeune," the letter reads. "We therefore urge to you commit to full funding of the ATSDR 2010 Annual Plan of Work without further delay." ...
