Accord is sought on land uses near Luke by Cecilia Chan The Arizona Republic December 12, 2009It's a race against the clock for Maricopa County and Arizona to find a compromise over residential encroachment around Luke Air Force Base before the military picks a location to train its F-35 pilots. The two sides have been at odds over whether the county can issue building permits in areas around the base that have high accident potential and high noise levels. Pentagon officials have expressed concerns that the county did not "appear to make compatible development a priority near the base." County officials, in turn, have said landowners have been unfairly prevented from developing or improving their property. ...
