Authority continues to plan and develop former Air Force base

PORTSMOUTH - Pease International Tradeport is a positive example of an economic success rising out of the perceived disaster predicted with the closing of the Pease Air Base as part of the government Base Realignment and Closure Act. 

It was on January 5, 1989, that the closing of Pease Air Force Base was recommend by the realignment commission and that decision was approved January 5, 1989. [sic]

The Seacoast region was shocked by the announcement. 

Up to the moment of the announcement, all sources paying attention to the process, to include New Hampshire Senators, Congressional representatives, governor and the media, believed Pease had survived the first-ever list. Everyone was wrong.

After the announcement it took more than a year of debate about what to do to begin to recover from the closure.

Today Foster’s Sunday Citizen provides a recap of how Pease Tradeport has developed and what those managing the tradeport see for the future.
