Vacant Bailey's Crossroads office building may be sold, rezoned for residential

Fairfax County is trying to make lemonade out of the lemons that is the Base Realignment and Closure process.

The Board of Supervisors has initiated a comprehensive plan amendment to allow for residential and minor retail at 5600 Columbia Pike, a 4-acre parcel at the intersection of Columbia Pike and Carlin Springs Road in Bailey's Crossroads.

The building, owned by Government Properties Income Trust (NYSE: GOV), is under contract to an unidentified buyer, county officials said. That contract purchaser requested the comprehensive plan amendment.
