Oregon delegation steps in to urge Umatilla Chemical Depot land transfer By Annette Cary Tri-City Herald January 16, 2015 Oregon congressmen are urging the Pentagon to move ahead quickly with the previously planned transfer of land that once housed the Umatilla Chemical Depot near Hermiston to local interests at no cost. “We are writing to express our strong concerns about reports that the U.S. Army may seek to charge the communities around Umatilla to receive property as part of the ongoing Base Realignment Closure (BRAC) process at the Umatilla Army Depot,” said a letter this week to Defense Secretary Charles Hagel from Oregon Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeffrey Merkley and Rep.
