Residents seek help from Portsmouth Town Council in Navy fence flap By Derek Gomes Newport Daily News (RI) September 6, 2018 PORTSMOUTH - About 100 residents signed petitions asking for the Town Council’s help in a dispute with the Navy over the planned location of a tall chain-link fence that some say would be intrusive. The petition urges the Town Council to request that the Navy erect a new fence around the Tank Farm 4 property where the old one once stood - and not on the property boundary that is closer to nearby homes, which appears to be the Navy’s intention. The matter is on the agenda for the council meeting Monday at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. For decades, a chain-link fence separated the roughly 60-acre Navy property overlooking Narragansett Bay from the Redwood Farms subdivision to the south. The fence was removed because of lead contamination, and the Navy has plans to install a new one on the property boundary, which residents estimate to be about 50 feet closer to their properties than where the old fence stood. … For the entire article, see http://www.newportri.com/news/20180906/residents-seek-help-from-portsmouth-town-council-in-navy-fence-flap -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center P.O.
