The posted article on Fort Ord states: "Among the ordnance set to be
detonated Wednesday will be 4.2-inch projectiles, smoke canisters, 81 mm
projectiles and white phosphorus, often used as an incendiary or smoke
agent. Some of the suspected materials date back to the Vietnam War-era,
Laughlin added."

EPA policy clearly prohibits open burning and detonation of almost all of
these items. Here is one example of many guidance documents:

If you hear explosions or see smoke in Fort Ord Wednesday, here's why (Hint:
It's not new)

By Eduardo Cuevas
Salinas Californian
August 28, 2019

Officials at the former Fort Ord will detonate old military ordnance
including projectiles and chemicals Wednesday, which may bring smoke and
explosive noises to the area.

The detonation will occur 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. near Nowhere Road, toward
the southwest of the former Army base in a remote area inaccessible to the
public.

"The detonations are cleaning up the old footprint of the former Fort Ord,"
said Jim Laughlin, public affairs chief for the Presidio of Monterey, which
helps oversee detonations with the Army's Fort Ord Realignment and Closure
office.

Since the base's closure in 1994, officials have worked to do environmental
cleanups as land is returned to public use.

Brookhaven lab employees file suit over exposure to toxic chemical

Long Island News 12 (NY)
August 28, 2019

Workers at Brookhaven National Lab are suing over exposure to a toxic
chemical.

The chemical trichlorethylene was used as a degreaser for the super
computers that scientists use to make discoveries.

The chemical, also referred to as TCE, is also known as a human carcinogen
linked to kidney cancer and kidney disease.

For Decades, Polluters Knew PFAS Chemicals Were Dangerous But Hid Risks from
Public

By Jared Hayes and Scott Faber
Environmental Working Gorup
AUGUST 28, 2019

For nearly 70 years, chemical companies like 3M and DuPont have known that
the highly fluorinated chemicals called PFAS build up in our blood. They?ve
known for almost that long that PFAS chemicals have a toxic effect on our
organs.

But they did not alert federal or state regulators until 1998, and many
companies continue to make and release PFAS chemicals into the environment
today. What?s worse, some are using junk science to fight efforts to reduce
ongoing discharges and clean up legacy pollution.

Today EWG released documents that detail decades of deception. Secret
studies and internal memos reveal:
