Salina-area public bodies discuss former air base contamination

Multiple Salina entities met together with legal counsel Tuesday to discuss an environmental issue at the Salina Regional Airport.

The Salina City Commission, USD 305 Board of Education, Salina Airport Authority Board of Directors and representatives from Kansas State University held the joint special meeting Tuesday. These four organizations are known collectively as the Salina Public Entities.

The individual entities opened special meetings and, after about 20 minutes of introduction, timeline and background about the issue from Tim Rogers, the executive director of the airport authority, broke into an hour of executive session together to talk with lawyers about mediation with the U.S. Department of Justice and Army Corps of Engineers.
