Pentagon seeking to incinerate 'forever chemicals' at plant on Ohio River By Paul Van Osdol WTAE TV-4 News November 21, 2024 EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio — The Pentagon is planning to incinerate so-called forever chemicals at a plant in Ohio that is upwind from Western Pennsylvania. The East Liverpool site is one of two incinerators nationwide where the Pentagon is hoping to ship thousands of pounds of PFAS, also known as forever chemicals. The chemicals have been linked to cancer, thyroid disease and birth defects. Eddie Moorehead lives a half mile from the Heritage Thermal Services incinerator in East Liverpool. "Sometimes when they burn something different, you get a different whiff of what's in the air," he said. The prevailing winds carry those fumes across the Ohio River and into Beaver and Allegheny counties. Soon, the wind currents may be carrying PFAS. High levels of PFAS are found in firefighting foam, much of which is stored at military bases. … For the entire story, see https://www.wtae.com/article/pfas-forever-chemicals-east-liverpool-ohio/62978938 — Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
