The Military’s Use Of “Forever Chemicals” At Bay Head Park Leaves A Lasting Footprint To This Day By Gavin Douglas Eye on Annapolis (MD) SEPTEMBER 16, 2025 A Brief History Of Bay Head Park Bay Head Road Annex, now known as Bay Head Park, is located in Anne Arundel County, Annapolis, Maryland. Bay Head Road Annex was founded during the Cold War as a Nike missile battery, serving as such from 1954 to 1969. After deactivation, Bay Head was used by the Navy for research involving burn tests, testing for fire hazard potential, and off-gas production from 1972 to 1981. Afterwards, the Navy used the site for storage until 1999. The facility was then transferred to Anne Arundel County in 2004 and developed into Bay Head Park, the current site of soccer and football fields, a missile-themed playground, and The Children’s Theatre of Annapolis.
