U.S. Chamber of Commerce- Brownfields http://www.uschamber.com/events/brownfields *************************************************** The U.S. Soccer Foundation Celebrates a Decade of U.S. Soccer Tuesday, February 19, 2002 Mayflower Hotel, Washington, DC *************************************************** In February, the U.S. Soccer Foundation will celebrate “A Decade of U.S. Soccer,” a banquet to honor the Men’s and Women’s Olympic and World Cup soccer teams of the past ten years, including the sensational 1999 Women's World Cup Champions. The event will be held on February 19, 2002 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. The USSF Board of Directors would be honored if you would consider a sponsoring role. Proceeds of this event benefit the U.S. Soccer Foundation's Capital Campaign to build Soccer's first National Training Center, where America's best soccer athletes will train and prepare to represent our country in international competitions such as the World Cup and the Olympic Games. Soccer is the world's most popular sport, with 200 million active players in more than 200 countries - no other single game inspires as many players and fans worldwide, promotes international goodwill and understanding, and unites diverse nationalities. The USSF, founded after the 1994 Men's World Cup that was held in the United States, is committed to enriching young lives through soccer. Every USSF action focuses on providing educational opportunities, developing public and private sector partnerships, and enhancing the quality of life through soccer-oriented programs. USSF grants are working today - attracting more girls to the sport in inner cities, providing opportunities for the physically and mentally challenged, using soccer as a platform to promote education and reduce the high school dropout rate, assisting local field building initiatives and developing our future national players. The banquet will celebrate the growth of soccer and the Foundation's contributions to communities across the country. Phil Anschutz, Chairman and CEO of The Anschutz Corporation, and U.S. Chamber President, Tom Donohue, will co-chair the event. Cokie Roberts will act as Mistress of Ceremonies. We are pleased to present this significant event in the Nation's capital. Our athletes are a symbol of America's strength and pride and we will honor them proudly. As you may be aware, the Foundation has also been very active in the development of soccer fields across the country, including the cleanup and reuse of Brownfields and Superfund sites as recreational areas. In fact, earlier this year, the Foundation jointly-sponsored a highly successful conference in Washington, DC focusing on the reuse of these types of sites. The Foundation thanks you for your consideration of this request. *************************************************** CONTACT THE U.S. SOCCER FOUNDATION *************************************************** For a list of sponsorship opportunities or for more information about this and other soccer programs of interest to the Brownfields community, please contact Ellen Roberts at (202) 872-6658 or mer@ussoccerfoundation.org.
