Re: [CPEO-BIF] Pompton Lakes, New Jersey vapor mitigation

When I spoke at a community meeting in Pompton Lakes earlier this year, 
I explained - as I have at workshops across the country - that the type 
of mitigation offered by DuPont - Subslab Depressurization - is 
protective if properly installed. I did suggest long-term monitoring to 
ensure that the systems remain effective.

A speaker from the community showed photographs of homes where 
installation - wiring, vent pipes, etc. - had apparently not been done 
properly.

While this site may have experienced greater than average installation 
difficulties, I concluded that the major reasons for community 
dissatisfaction pre-date the vapor intrusion response. Many people in 
the community are mistrustful of both DuPont and the state Department of 
Environmental Protection because it took so long for any serious 
response to occur.
