Spending bill allows state to establish security hub

An amended Iraq spending bill passed by the U.S. House and Senate on 
Thursday night includes language that allows the state to establish a 
regional security hub at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint 
Reserve Base.

If President Bush signs the bill into law it supersedes the Navy's 
decision not to turn over surplus base land to the Air Force, which in 
turn would pass the land onto the state. The president, who vetoed a 
previous war-funding bill that included a timetable for the withdrawal 
of troops from Iraq, said he supports the $120 billion war spending bill.

Mike McGee, executive director for the Horsham Land Reuse Authority, is 
"extremely disappointed." Horsham's authority is responsible for 
devising a redevelopment plan once the Navy leaves in 2011.
