Bourne closes third well The chemical percholorate has been detected in low levels. By KEVIN DENNEHY STAFF WRITER BOURNE - A third Bourne Water District well was shut down Tuesday after traces of the chemical percholorate were found in water samples taken from the well. The closure leaves the district with half of its six municipal wells closed. The chemical, a component of rocket propellants that is creeping off Camp Edwards, was detected in a water supply well about 1 1/2 miles west of two wells closed last month in Monument Beach. In all three wells, the levels of contamination are extremely low - just above detection levels. But environmental regulators are still struggling to determine what the health standard should be. Water district officials were concerned enough to shut down the third well. The complete article can be viewed at: http://www.capecodonline.com/cctimes/bournecloses4.htm | |
