Thanks for Lenny for posting the excellent APGSCC summary of sole source aquifer program. Members of the list may also be interested to know that the Military Toxics Project has a 200-plus page packet on the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)and sole source aquifers as these relate to military contamination. The applicability of the SDWA to military sites is relatively new, dating to the 1996 amendments to the law. The packet is intended to help communities assess whether the SDWA may be a tool they can use to leverage cleanup protective of human health. Sections of the packet include: - Background on the SDWA and Drinking Water Contamination - Petitioners Guidance on sole source aquifer designation - Examples of Military Contamination of Groundwater and Drinking Water - Drinking Water Contamination at the Massachusetts Military Reservation - Health Information - and others Copies of the packet are available from MTP for $20.00. Contact mtp@miltoxproj.org or (207) 783-5091 if you're interested in obtaining a packet. Steve Taylor Military Toxics Project ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
