A judge's impending decision on the constitutionality of a law designed to protect the state's military bases may have deep consequences, base allies fear.

With court proceedings beginning today, Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard says the future of the Valley's Luke Air Force Base, which generates $2.2 billion a year in economic activity, is at stake.

Goddard and other advocates add that overturning the law and permitting residential development near Luke could imperil Arizona's other military installations, which, combined with Luke, annually pump $9 billion into the economy.
